resin + pills= :)

Materials: Clear-casting resin, syringes, drugs (vitamins), parsley, lighter, cotton, spoon, sugar
Size: 41x 55cm
Inspiration: Go Ask Alice, William S. Burroughs (The Naked Lunch, Junky, Queer), David Sheff (Beautiful Boy), Nick Sheff (Tweak, We All Fall Down),

Description:  This project represents the freedom people find through escapism by separating themselves from reality, in this specific case through drug use. One of the reasons for this is the fear of facing the world, being judged by people who don’t matter yet whose opinions are so hurtful, dealing with problems and most of all, facing oneself.  Nick Sheff, a meth addict, said in his autobiography that he wanted to “Lose hold of reality…never have to let anyone down…An escape [he] would never be blamed for”. The drug plate attempts to help embody the hazy point of view of an addict, to be able to see the real world on the other side of the resin plate but not to be in touch with it. The separation provides satisfaction and peace represented by the smiley face made of drugs as they are the cause for the final fulfillment.
